Reading out loud.

A particularly positive post, I think, and carey-sharey.
I love reading out loud. I sometimes read aloud to myself, either fiction or the bible. I tend to hog the readings at bible study (we are doing Jeremiah, which is very good for reading aloud). I really wish I had children, so that I could read them the books I still enjoy from I was little. I would quite like to meet up with a friend or two occasionally to read with them for an afternoon. It would be such a pleasure.

  1. I love reading aloud too! And also tend to hog Bible readings! And we're doing Jeremiah!

Man, we should be friends or something.

Also, my friend Jen and I were talking about setting up a regular reading night, where people just read cool stuff from books. We did it as one of the evening activities at MAC Con for many years ("Fireside readings" without a fireside...), and it was always really popular. So I think lots of people like to be read to! Only prob is Jen's in the UK at the moment and I have no idea when she'll be back...

But hey, you know, we could always get the ball rolling...

Don't you think it sounds like a lovely summer afternoon, sitting on a picnic blanket under a tree kind of activity? Maybe I'm just thinking of the scene from S&S when Willoughby is reading to Marianne. That cad.

  2. Also I just noticed that my comment is longer than your actual post.

  3. Oh, when you mentioned that S&S scene of Willoughby reading to Marianne, it made me think of one of my lecturers. He has the most beautiful voice to listen to. Smooth. He enunciates and pronounces his words properly. I'd much rather listen to him read poetry or great works of fiction rather than accounting procedures.

  4. Bec, I was imagining picnic blankets and firesides too! Also, bay windows looking out into rainy gardens has potential. I think the presence of a cad would add distinction.

Reading with friends is cheap, low calorie, friendly and edifying.

  6. Unless you bring in the inevitable reading snacks, the ones which include but are not limited to, grapes, chocolate, boiled lollies and chips. It doesn't tend to include things like water and celery.
    Just and observation

  7. Well, when you read out loud your mouth is already busy, so less likely to fill it with reading snacks!
