Shall we dance?

School formals are apparently getting out of hand. Apparently young people want more than one occasion to dress up formally and prance around, so there are year 6, year 10, year 11 and year 12 formals and so on. What's new about that, I say? We might slop around in shorts and thongs nowadays, but that doesn't mean that we don't still enjoy an excuse to get all fancy. Didn't country towns in previous generations have dances and stuff in the church hall? Didn't Lydia Bennet "long for a ball"? The fashions change but the essence is the same. Young people + dressing up + dancing.

Not sure why the man has a fan in this picture. In Horrible Histories last night the fan and fan flirting code was used only by women.
